“‘My gender identity is not a disorder’ - AnonIt isn’t a disorder of my mind to know what gender I am: It’s a dysfunction of society to keep telling me that they know best; that I can’t identify my gender for myself. Somehow it’s possible that I can know who I can love, what I can wear, where I can work, how I can live - but it’s completely improbable that I can know what gender I am without someone wearing a lab coat holding a clipboard telling me if it’s real. ‘Be a girl,’ the world says, ‘be this thing we tell you to be.’ It is that coercion that causes the most disorder in my life. As soon as people stop telling and start observing, the disorder is replaced by order. Nobody has to tell me how to be me; I already am me.”
This was one of the most poignant submissions to issue one of the zine. Thank you to whoever wrote it!

Got the first issue of Mind Over Matter zine in the post today, I haven’t read it yet but I’m sure it’s going to be great seeing as the amount of effort that has been put into it.
I don’t know how I only just saw this post, a month after the fact. Thank you for your kind words (and thank you Rosie for your kind comment too!)
People are lovely.
Yesterday I got my copy of the first issue of the Mind Over Matter zine, which is devoted to mental health. I contributed some photos and my own experience with mental health issues, and from what I’ve read so far it’s very interesting. There will soon be a .pdf copy of it in case you want to read it and can’t afford the physical zine.
These are the photos I contributed:
[Image: A person with shoulder length brown hair sits with their black hood up and holds an issue of Mind Over Matter so that it obscures the right half of their face]
[Image: A person with dark, almost black, hair lies back in a bath. The photo is taken from above. The person wears a white top that is made sheer by the water. We can see their nipples, and they have gold glitter or dust on their face.]
[Image: A person with dark shoulder length hair sits naked with their back to the camera, looking to the right of shot and hugging their legs. The wall in the background is pale, but dark shadows fall at the bottom of the frame.]
[Image: A person with shoulder length dark hair lies back on cream sheets on a bed. Their arm obscures their eyes. They are wearing a grey vest top, under which can be seen a glimpse of a black bra.]
Thank you Clara! I loved your submission. More photos and illustrations are wanted in the future, guys!
biologicallyqueer asked: thank you so much for the delivery of the zine it's fantastic! :) well done xx

Got this awesome zine in the mail today! Thanks so much Faridah, I can’t wait to read it!
Wahey! Has anyone else got theirs?
i don’t usually use tumblr for personal writings or indeed anything overtly personal, it’s more of an escapism, but i would like to share this for anybody interested who has stumbled upon this place.
(warning: my nickname at work is ‘soapbox’ for a reason…)
i received my mind over matter zine (issue #1) yesterday, in my humble opinion it is a wonderfully put together collective and the beginnings of something, well, really bloody great. it is a zine about all things mental health related, with submitted personal contributions and informative pieces etc.
it does feel like i eat, sleep and breathe mental health sometimes (i suffer from a condition and am also a registered mental health nurse) but i do feel that it is imperative that those who are aware, familiar or curious about mental health talk about it. and continue to talk about it. share experiences, learn something new.
anyway, here is the link, check it out: mindovermatterzine.tumblr.com
I am so overwhelmed by the responses I have been getting so far. It’s such a simple concept: allowing people to talk about their experiences without judgement or censorship - I’m really glad readers are as stoked about it as I am. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
I received my copy in the post today, I read it start to finish in one hour. It’s a magazine produced by/for mentally ill people and covers some highly controversial issues and a lot of interesting other topics (although the description and diagram of lobotomy was pretty gross I have to say). Please followers take a look.
Anonymous asked: Got my copy of the zine today and oh my god, I read it in one hit. It was amazing thank you so much. Will be passing it on for others to read :)
YOU ARE MOST WELCOME!!!
Please do share it, and check back here in the new year for a free pdf copy too!
