Thank you for posting this. It’s hard enough being mentally ill and being told that I don’t have “real” problems.

It’s ok. I’ve been struggling with the words to articulate my feelings on the issue for a while, because I am in no way intending to silence people who are less privileged than me, or ignore the ways in which the multiple oppressions they face can and definitely do exacerbate their experience of mental illness…

Basically I think it can be easy to confuse recognizing intersectionality with playing ‘Oppression Olympics’, in which people who are privileged apart from their mental illness are laughed at for expressing distress in this regard because, on paper, their life is charmed.
