franksouth asked: I don't know, I guess I think "disorder" is preferable to "illness" because being sick is a drag and imples there's something wrong with you. "Disorder" just means "out of order" or not lined up like other folks and has pleasant connotations of "disorderly," which I am. Also, doing conscientious objector service as an orderly the nurses called me the disorderly orderly which prompted me into a few enjoyable weeks of adressing them as "laaaady" like Jerry Lewis. So, it's "disorder" for me.
Thanks for sharing! It’s really interesting to hear how people perceive certain language, and it’s important to pay attention to how others would like to be referred. I’d have never thought about things like that if you hadn’t explained your perspective!
