[Trigger Warning: Addiction]
i have to stop taking so many benzos
it’s getting out of hand. i run through packets a day. and i cant afford a benzo withdrawl right now. i just have my alcohol problem under control, thats why i take these evil pills anyway. but its starting to scare me. i just take to many. but until i am completely out of the wood with my alcohol problem, i have to stop. been taking them for almost a month now. that cant be good.
does anyone know how long it takes to become totally hooked on benzos. are 2 months too long? i just cant risk to drink again, it would kill me. so i guess i am going lesser of two evils style with benzos for a little while longer…
if anyone has suggestions or good advice, please, i dont want to get totally hooked to that stuff again. i have been there. but then i took them for years. so i am have no point of reference of how long it takes until i have to take care of this semi-addiction…
You might appreciate a look at yesterday’s blog post about benzodiazepine addiction. The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence here in the UK states:
“One of the key concerns about the use of benzodiazepines is that many people develop tolerance to their effects, gain little therapeutic benefit from chronic consumption, become dependent on them (both physically and psychologically), and suffer a withdrawal syndrome when they stop taking them. The withdrawal syndrome may be prolonged and can develop at any time up to 3 weeks after cessation of a long-acting benzodiazepine, or a few hours after cessation of a short-acting one. The syndrome includes anxiety, depression, nausea and perceptual changes.”
It’s surprising to me that a) Your doctor would prescribe them to you if you have a history of addiction b) That they would prescribe them to you for longer than 4 weeks. It might be worth meeting with your doctor and discussing other options. If you feel that you may be developing a dependency, ask if there are any BDZ addiction services in the area: there will be specialists there experienced in safely helping you through this. Good luck.

Hey, just saw this and thought to respond, it took me a month to be completely hooked, and then after being a year clean I had one relapse and was having withdrawls all over again. Good luck! And if you ever need to talk~
