Even though I agree it’s disappointing, it has generally been seen as more acceptable for “women” to dress as “men” (even though this is somewhat fetishized), whereas the opposite garners a lot more heated scorn. Still disappointing though.

Yes, I think you’re absolutely right. Being a ‘tomboy’ is socially acceptable for FAAB children. As this camp seems to be largely pre-pubescent I guess they felt it more necessary for MAAB children. A similar teen camp in the future for FAAB and MAAB adolescents would be amazing to see happen!

Still, the NY Times could have been prudent to use gender-neutral pronouns.
