I personally appreciate your reply a lot. I’ve had depression for a long time, I remember having hints of it even as a kid but it really kicked up in middle and high school. I told myself that I was just a moody teenager and I couldn’t have depression, I just needed to toughen up. And yeah, I was a moody and angsty youth, and that’s okay, but I also had severe depression. I and others tried to invalidate my depression by saying it was just because I was young, I had no words to express how hard it was to be a teenager already struggling to find myself and grow up while also suffering from depression.

Absolutely. I should have also mentioned in my other response about silencing people based on their age that adolescence / early adulthood is also a time when many queer and trans* folks are really struggling to figure out their identities; experiencing anxieties, dysphorias and depression in conjunction with that and with discriminations experienced from others. I hope you’re able to find the support you need now that you’re older…
