[Trigger Warning: Discussion of suicide attempt, social anxiety, PTSD and racist abuse]

betterthandarkchocolate

I was recently hospitalized for a suicide attempt and I was only able to get a shared room (despite severe social anxiety). One of the people sharing with me was there against his will and got very angry with the nurses (one of which happened to be of Asian origin) and started to verbally abuse her because of her race. As I’m mixed race (mother chinese) (father english/irish) I was very uncomfortable. Even more so when he started to abuse my mother as she came in to see me. It was literally impossible to have my mother to visit and I was afraid of being screamed at as I have PTSD and violence, yelling or abuse severely triggers flashbacks (and I was already in a very fragile mental state just having tried to end my life). I asked to be moved to another room but the nurse didn’t organize it and said that they “couldn’t cater for all patients whims”. It wasn’t until the psychiatrist saw me and the environment that I was in that he was moved to a different room.
