The sedating of disruptive patients is an NHS scandal
“Over medicating is another euphemism for using medication to manage behaviour which staff find difficult. The misuse of sedation is a recognised problem in nursing and residential homes caring for elderly people with dementia. Similar situations have been reported in homes caring for people with learning disabilities, particularly those whom staff describe as presenting challenging behaviour.”
