[Image: a two-panel comic strip. In the top panel, a person with short hair and glasses in a grey t-shirt and hoodie is being handed a takeaway cup by a barista. The barista is saying ‘Here’s your mocha, SIR’. The person replies ‘Thanks’. In the bottom panel, the person is walking away with a content smile, holding their mocha. The dull backdrop of the coffee house is lit by a beautiful yellow glow emanating from their body. The artist signature is ‘Neekko 10’]

Passing is enough to make you feel like a superhero for the entire day.

^_______^ This would make my day.

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. For those not in the know, ‘passing’ is a term, as I understand it, used in the trans community to refer to being successfully perceived as cis-gendered, congruent with your gender (i.e. perhaps not the gender you were assigned as at birth or raised as). So, for example, in this comic I am led to believe that the person pictured is a trans man who is pleased to have ‘passed’ as a cis man.
The effects on one’s mental health of being consistently mis-gendered cannot be underestimated. I would love to know if there is a proveable relationship between the perception of ‘passing’ and the reduction of negative affect and dysphoria. I’d like to think there is. As ever, do let me know if I’m wrong or have phrased that inappropriately.

Reblogging this comic because it is awesome.
