This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. For those not in the know, ‘passing’ is a term, as I understand it, used in the trans community to refer to being successfully perceived as cis-gendered, congruent with your gender (i.e. perhaps not the gender you were assigned as at birth or raised as). So, for example, in this comic I am led to believe that the person pictured is a trans man who is pleased to have ‘passed’ as a cis man. The effects on one’s mental health of being consistently mis-gendered cannot be underestimated. I would love to know if there is a proveable relationship between the perception of ‘passing’ and the reduction of negative affect and dysphoria. I’d like to think there is.
